So, I’ve posted next to nothing this entire summer. Instead of history, here’s a personal blog post. Just sharing all the good media I absorbed - half as explanation, half as recommendation.
Howl’s Moving Castle - I’ve seen this film a million times and it never gets old. Same people who made Spirited Away. Hayao Miyazaki is fucking amazing.
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream - Very strange short horror story. I love it, but it’s pretty objectively fucked up and crazy. It’s about rogue AI and torture, both psychological and physiological. Does that sound interesting? Google it.
The Call of Cthulhu - One of H.P. Lovecraft’s more famous works. Science fiction/horror, pretty short, very good.
Ugly Americans - My favorite TV show, and it’s on Netflix, so I have no excuse not to watch all of it. Your average story of an average guy making his way in New York, except that everyone else is a monster. Literally.
The Binding Of Isaac - Finally got around to this game. Addictive dungeon crawler, with a bit of intelligent horror-ish plot. Think Zelda, but you fight monsters with the tears of a tormented child.
Katawa Shoujo - A Japanese-style romantic visual novel. The fact that it’s made by a ”Four Leaf Studios” (yes, we’re talking about 4chan) and that the title translates to “cripple girls” might put people off. Don’t be fooled - it’s actually a pretty mature look at the way we objectify people.
The Truman Show - I know I’m late to this particular party, but this really is a great film. Lots of good metaphoric-y analysis-y goodness.
Marble Hornets - I’m sure many have heard of this, but it’s a video series/twitter feed/alt reality game, with how into it some people get. All sorts of psychological horror goodness. Look up the title on twitter. Have fun sleeping.
The Stanley Parable - A story about a man named Stanley. Go download and play it, and don’t read anything else about the plot until you’ve done so. It’s best that way.
Now you know what I did all summer.
GG Allin’s funeral.
GG Allin was something of a controversial figure - on a mission to bring rock to the truest underground he could find, he would punctuate his punk performances with self mutilation, (sometimes sexual) assault on audience members, heavy drug use, and often defecation. He commonly could be found nude, bloodied, and covered in feces.
He died after a concert at a party of an accidental heroin overdose, which went unnoticed by other participants. At his funeral, his unwashed body was dressed in a jacket and a jockstrap. The event became a party, with guests posing and doing drugs with the corpse.
“When I’m onstage it’s my therapy. It’s not a performance. It’s a ritual. And the ultimate performance would be when I’ve reached my peak and I’m not there yet so don’t you all clap when I say this - I’ll commit suicide and I’ll take your kids with me.” ~ GG Allin
Oh my god this.
Just a great site about WW2 I’d like to share with everybody. Great info, great pictures/video/sound files, great format.
Just so great.
Go there, now!
